Not the strongest vintage but as expected, Vega Sicilia managed an impressive effort. The color alone could be mistaken for a wine half its age. Initially, there were still primary fruit aromas and flavors of black cherry, blackberry, boysenberry and cassis, with background notes of sweet tobacco, cinnamon, nutmeg and clove. With aeration, the fruits faded into baked flavors, with a balsamic character. Magnificent!
Tasting this beauty brought back memories of my visit to the property in 2018.
